Workshoppin'

Hosted my first creative writing workshop tonight. I think about 35 people came. I said that I felt like a tee-ball coach hosting at coaching workshop but that I had keys and the ability to turn the lights on at the field so we could all play. And that's exactly what they did. One of the exercises involved this photo of the Gert Johnnys. They wrote about these characters (names aren't actual). They laughed as they listed their likes, dislikes, fears, superstitions, ambitions, etc. I walked around and heard some pretty good ones. My new friend Isaac decided that Patrik has worked in the stock room at Sears for four years. Feel free to add your own observations. It's a pretty fun little exercise.

Dang it Sean! I was gonna take Duncan! You coulda had Bjorn. Why you gotta always take the guy I want?? Fine, I'll take Sven. Geez.

Sven just received his Four Year Service Pin from the Jiffy Lube. "Cleanest cat on the oil room floor" is what's been said about him. 278 days without a drip and still counting. Sven grins from ear to ear as we talk about him. He pulls the purple comb from his back pocket and begins to feather his hair...

Bjorn is distantly related to Peter Noone of the Herman's Hermits and sometimes performs with him. Peter is Bjorn's 2nd cousin twice removed on Bjorn's mother's side of the family (her family lived in Britain before moving to Sweden). Bjorn's favorite Herman's Hermits song "Mrs. Brown, you've got a lovely daughter" became the impetus for Fionna's decision to pursue her newfound transformation. Plus, she has a crush on Peter Noone. Although Bjorn boasts of being a burly he-man type of guy, he's deathly afraid of spiders and swears he will NEVER go on tour with the group should they EVER travel to Australia, home of the dreaded and highly venomous Sydney funnel-web spider. Bjorn knows of Fionna's latent attraction for his English cousin, but he doesn't care. He's kinda gettin' sweet on her anyway. Day by day she's looking real good to him. He dreams they might someday tie the knot - and who knows, they might just make a good match because Bjorn styles women's hair like nobody's business and Fionna hates spiders with a passion and will squash them on sight before her man ever lays eyes on them.
A match made in ..... Europe.
